my take on iPhone

OK Finally i had a chance to go and play with iPhone and get fimiliar with it. Here is my take on it.

PROS:
- The interface is very slick. I really like it.
- The design, concept, access and the features are very good.
- cool features. No mechanical parts. Everything is touchscreen. So damaging the iPhoneis fairly hard unless you smack the screen itself.
- Built in Wi-Fi. Can connect to any open wireless connections.

CONS:
- According to the sales rep, the iPhone CAN NEVER BE network unlocked. OK This is a major turnoff.
- Apple isn't allowing any third party to develop applications. This really sucks. This means that the applications put out by Apple will be expensive and no freebies like the ones available for palm OS.
- Expansive as hell. 600 bucks for 8GB is too much. For the same 600bucks or less, i can buy laptop.
- You can view MS Word, Excel files but you cannot modify them. This is absoulately ridiculous.

OVERALL REACTION:
Really slick and cool device. Lots of new features that i have not see anywhere. That's apple i guess. The staff is trained very well to answer questions. I was really impressed with the design and accessability. The down side is lack of applications and unlock capability. This is not a real device for business people. It cannot replace Treo's or Blackberries yet. This is more like a show and tell device which people will use it for iPod and some basic pda functions and phone. Advanced PDA functions are not available and may not be for a while.

SO WOULD I BUY ONE: Well i am a tech junkie and I would really like to get one of those but after playing with it and stuff, I think i will hold off on buying one until both of the things are satisfied: first is that they actually let third party develop application and this in turn can generate freeware's and second is that it can be network unlocked. Until them i am really happy with my Treo 680.

If you havent played with it, i highly recommend you do that.
